Huddersfield Town will come face to face with ex-player Jamie McCombe in Portugal next week.

The 31-year-old, who could yet be joined by former John Smith’s Stadium teammate Peter Clarke at Doncaster, is fully recovered from the back injury which limited him to two appearances last season.

He’s eager to make his mark, both in next week’s tour (Town and Doncaster play behind closed doors on Tuesday) and the season ahead.

Relegated last term, Rovers are aiming to repeat their League promotion triumph of 2012-13, when McCombe made 35 appearances after his summer switch from Town.

“After last season, everyone has come back with a point to prove so hopefully we can hit the ground running,” said McCombe, who had two seasons at Town after joining from Bristol City in 2010.

“It would be great to replicate what happened two years ago when we were champions of League I.

“Every club wants to get promoted but with the squad we’ve got and the quality of football we can play, our aim has to be to bounce straight back.”

McCombe added: “It’s great to be able to take part this year, it’s a really good feeling to be back.

“Last year was difficult for me, but I’ve worked hard all the way through the summer and everything has gone well and according to plan.”
