Huddersfield Town old boy Paul Dixon has vowed to do better for Dundee United – and push for a Scotland recall.

The 28-year-old ended a two-and-a-half-year Town stint when he returned to Tannadice during the January transfer window.

The left-back played 17 times for the Scottish club last season, but by his own admission, failed to shine.

Now Dixon, who made 145 appearances in his first spell at United before joining Town in 2012, is determined to excel.

And he’d love to add to the three Scotland caps he earned during his early days in West Yorkshire.

“Last season was a bit of a write-off for me personally, but it’s put to bed now,” said Dixon, who played 92 times for Town and faced competition from QPR loanee Jack Robinson last season.

“I played most of my games for Huddersfield in August and early September.

“I only played just once or twice after that when the new manager Chris Powell came in.

“At United, I played every week but didn’t feel my personal performances were up to the high standards I set myself.

“It wasn’t what the management team expect of me.

“And it’s not what the fans would have remembered either – but I’ve nothing to prove to them.

“They know what I can do. I know too and hopefully this season I can show that again.”

Dixon, who started out at United’s neighbours Dundee, added: “I’m fairly settled now.

“It is tough arriving in January, halfway through a season.

“Possibly in the last five games of the season I can say I felt I got pass marks and was happy with how I played.

“This season is a fresh start for me.”

United finished fifth in the Scottish Premiership last season.

They also reached the Scottish League Cup final, Dixon featuring in the 2-0 defeat by Celtic in the final at Hampden.

Their new campaign will start with a home game against Aberdeen on Saturday, August 1.
