MATT GLENNON is refusing to throw in the towel as Stockport fight for Football League survival.

The former Town keeper’s hometown team are five points adrift of safety – and Burton Albion, the side currently in 22nd place, have played three games less.

Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at League II promotion chasers Wycombe added to County’s woes, but Glennon, who dropped out of the League with Carlisle, insisted: “We can beat the drop.

“If we can nick four or five wins out of our last six games, it could well be enough. I’ve been in relegation battles before, and I’m convinced this side can do it.”

Burton host fourth-bottom Northampton tonight while fifth-bottom Bradford seek vital points at Macclesfield.

Meanwhile another former Huddersfield Town man Efe Sodje believes managing Bury has big appeal.

The promotion-chasing Shakers lost boss Alan Knill to Scunthorpe last week, but maintained their League II bid with a 2-0 home win over Oxford.

Iain Dowie is among those being linked with the Gigg Lane vacancy and former Town defender Sodje said: “Any manager seeing us would say ‘They know what they’re doing. They’re good boys.’

“I don’t think the club will have any trouble finding a good man.”

Bury are a point off the automatic places.
