Steve Taylor has been reunited with Mark Robins at Scunthorpe United.

The pair worked together at Rotherham United, Barnsley, Coventry City and Huddersfield Town, with Robins as manager and Taylor first-team coach.

Taylor left Town in May 2014 and Robins after the first match of last season, the 4-0 home defeat by Bournemouth.

Robins took over at League I Scunthorpe in mid-October and has now appointed Taylor as his chief scout.

Taylor had a spell as Under 21 coach at Derby County last season.

After his playing career was cut short by injury, he had a 20-year coaching stint at the Rams up to 2006.

Meanwhile Town’s former football operations director Ross Wilson took to Twitter to hail Southampton’s Europa League success.

Goals from Graziano Pelle and Sadio Mane put Saints into the Europa League play-offs with a comprehensive 2-0 victory over Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem.

Italian Pelle fired low into the bottom corner to put Saints into a commanding 4-0 aggregate lead after four minutes.

Vitesse struggled to create clear openings but pushed forward late on before Mane settled the issue.

Wilson, now Southampton’s director of scouting and recruitment, tweeted: “Exciting week. Europa League progress and good to have our European scouts at Staplewood (the Saints training ground), some new staff join our team.”

Town’s Championship rivals Bristol City have signed Aston Villa forward Callum Robinson on a season-long loan. A England youth international, Northampton-born Robinson, 20, is a product of Villa’s academy.
