FORMER Huddersfield Town manager Brian Horton has become assistant to Paul Dickov at Doncaster.

And Rovers, freshly promoted to the Championship, have signed former Real Madrid B midfielder Marc De Val Fernandez on a two-year deal.

Fernandez, 23, is new chief Dickov’s first signing.

Real bought the Girona-born defensive midfielder from Espanyol in 2009, but he failed to make a senior breakthrough at the Bernabeu.

The Madrid website describes him as an intelligent footballer known for the strength and the timing of his tackles.

Experienced Horton, 64, managed Town in the Championship between 1995-97.

He has also been in charge of Hull, Oxford, Manchester City, Brighton, Port Vale and Macclesfield as well as being No2 to Phil Brown at Hull and Preston.

Meanwhile Paul Gerrard, the former Town trialist who worked with Dickov at Oldham, has replaced previous goalkeeping coach Lee Butler, who has left the club.
