THE pressure is firmly on ex-Huddersfield Town loan men Jermaine Beckford, Theo Robinson and the rest of the Reggae Boyz ahead of Jamaica’s World Cup qualifier against the USA in Kingston tonight.

Theodore Whitmore’s side were left bottom of the six-strong CONCACAF table by Tuesday’s 1-0 home defeat by Mexico, when L eicester’s Beckford came off the bench to win his third cap and fellow striker, Derby’s Robinson , who also has three caps, was an unused substitute.

It was the Mexicans’ first victory in the qualifying phase – three go through automatically with a fourth involved in a play-off – and put them top of a tight table with six points from four games.

Jamaica have two points and have scored only once in their four games, but Whitmore, who played in their only World Cup finals, in France in 1998, insisted: “We can’t let ourselves get stressed out.”

Mexico are in Panama tonight while Honduras host Costa Rica in a Central American ‘clasico’.
