Former Huddersfield Town midfielder Ian Craney has joined Conwy Borough.

And their manager Darren Moss says his old Morecambe teammate can play a crucial role in getting the club into the Welsh Premier League.

Conwy are currently in the Cymru Alliance, the second-tier league based in North and Central Wales.

Liverpudlian midfielder Craney, now 31, played for Town from 2008-10.

He made 35 appearances, scoring six goals, after signing from Accrington.

He had a loan stint at Morecambe, playing alongside Moss, in 2009-10, before a permanent move from Town to Fleetwood.

Craney has also played for Altrincham, Swansea, Rochdale, Telford and Stockport.

He said: “I have had a few offers from clubs in the Welsh Premier League and Conference North.

“But as soon as I heard Darren was managing Conwy, this was the only place I wanted to play.

“I’ve had some great times with Mossy when we were together at Morecambe.

“He is someone I respect and I will do everything I can to try and help us win the league under his guidance.

“I am really looking forward to the new season.”

Moss said: “I am excited to announce the signing of Ian.

“It’s huge for the club. Ian has vast experience in the Football League and is a player that I been tracking for some time.

“He has the ability to win games with his creativity.

“After meeting him at the ground and explaining our plans I know he can’t wait to get going.

“He is a great lad and down to earth and a massive capture.”
