Ex-Huddersfield Town midfielder Donal McDermott has joined Salford City, the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League club owned by members of Manchester United’s famous ‘Class of 92’.

The 25-year-old Irishman, who started his career at Manchester City, had a six-month stint at the John Smith Stadium in 2011.

Signed from Bournemouth, he played 14 times, scoring once, before returning to the South Coast club in January 2012.

Dublin-born McDermott left Bournemouth at the end of last season and had been playing for Dundalk.

Salford, NPL First Division North rivals of Brighouse Town, have just appointed former Ramsbottom United boss Anthony Johnson.

He replaces Phil Power, who was sacked last week.

Club owners Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt came to the decision along with joint stakeholder Peter Lim.

Salford won 2-1 against Kendal Town on Saturday with former United coaches Neville and Scholes overseeing the victory.

Brighouse were beaten 2-0 at Darlington.
