There will be no Andy Holdsworth at Guiseley when Huddersfield Town visit for a friendly on Saturday, July 11.

The former Town right-back has hung up his boots after skippering the Nethermoor side into the Conference top flight.

Holdsworth, 31, has taken up a coaching role with Barnsley’s academy.

He came through Town’s academy system and made 244 appearances, scoring 18 goals, before joining Oldham Athletic in 2009.

After a spell at Morecambe, he joined Guiseley in 2011.

“It’s nice to go out on a high and I could not have finished any better, really,” he said.

“Barnsley asked if I would be interested and I am getting to a point now where I am not going to play forever and need to start to look at what happens after playing.

“With the fantastic way that Guiseley went up, I just thought the time was right for me to take a step away from that.

“The Conference is mainly a full-time league with a lot of travelling involved and I couldn’t commit to being there every week and it wouldn’t have been fair on the club.”

Former Town loan striker Liam Dickinson will remain a part of Guiseley manager Mark Bower’s squad.
