Former Huddersfield Town favourite Peter Clarke plans to use his experience to help Blackpool buck the trend and avoid the drop.

The 33-year-old skippered Town out of League I in 2012, and has no desire to return.

But no side bottom of the Championship in the middle of January has stayed up over the last five seasons.

The centre-back is now playing under his old John Smith’s Stadium manager Lee Clark at Bloomfield Road.

Clarke’s first goal in open play since Town’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy clash with Bradford City in October 2011 sealed last Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Millwall.

It was only a third victory of the season for the Seasiders, who host Town on the final day, May 2.

It’s been a turbulent campaign for a club who were in the Premier League four years ago.

And Clarke, in his second spell there, wants to help his younger teammates remain focused.

“Being a more senior player, I can probably help them through certain situations,” he said.

“The most important thing we can do is concentrate on playing.

“You can’t affect what else is going on, but you can make sure you prepare properly and give it 100% out on the pitch.”

Everton product Clarke rejoined Blackpool in July after making 224 Town appearances.

He was signed by Clark from Southend United in 2009.
