Former Huddersfield Town striker Danny Cadamarteri is set to take up a coaching position in the Sheffield Wednesday academy.

The 34-year-old, who had two spells at the John Smith’s Stadium, recently retired as a player after being unable to beat a long-term knee injury picked up while with Carlisle.

The Heavy Woollen-based frontman, who has been coaching the Leeds United women’s team, has just come to the end of a two-year contract at Brunton Park.

The Cumbrians signed Cadamarteri after the end of his second Town stint, from January 2011 until June 2012.

The Everton product, whose first spell at Town was from June 2007 to June 2009, has not been able to play for Carlisle this season, while he made 28 outings, scoring twice, in 2012-13.

He has also played for Bradford (twice), Leeds, Sheffield United, Leicester and Dundee United, and has totalled 399 games at club level, with 42 goals.

Carlisle, who have been relegated to League II, have offered a new two-year contract to former Town midfielder James Berrett.

The 25-year-old, who came through the Town academy and made 41 first-team appearances with two goals, joined them in 2010.

He has played 198 times, scoring 27 goals.

Ex-Town midfielder Michael Flynn is set to sign a new one-year deal at League II Newport.

The 33-year-old, who played for Town in 2008-09, joined his hometown club in 2012.

He has also played for Barry Town, Wigan, Blackpool, Gillingham and Bradford.
