Former Huddersfield  Town striker Danny Cadamarteri is bringing his coaching skills to Dewsbury this week.

The popular 34-year-old, who works in the Sheffield Wednesday academy, has joined forces with former Carlisle United teammate Andy Welsh to set up the ‘Soccer Akidemy’, which caters for five to 13-year-olds of both genders and all abilities.

They will be holding day-long sessions at St John Fisher Catholic High School on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The sessions run from 8.50am until 3.00pm and it’s £12 a day or £30 for all three.

“All the coaches are fully qualified and CRB checked,” explained Cadamarteri, who had two spells with Town and was forced to end his career through injury at the end of last season.

“We obviously work on core skills, but we also take in fitness, interaction with others, team building and sportsmanship.

“It’s been great getting the academy up and running, and it’s really taken off.

”We have a good ratio of coaches to kids, never more than 1:8, and we try hard to make the sessions beneficial, but enjoyable as well.”

Father of two Cadamarteri, originally from Cleckheaton, burst onto the scene as a teenage at Everton and went on to win three England Under 21 caps.

He also played for Bradford City, Leeds United, Sheffield United, Leicester City and Dundee United.

Welsh, 30, played for Stockport, Sunderland, Blackpool and Yeovil before his two-year stint at Carlisle.

He spent last season at Scunthorpe United.

“We both have long experience of the professional game, and are well on in our coaching qualificatons, as are all the staff we use,” added Cadamarteri.

“And if we see any youngsters we feel could go further, we take note, and we do have the contacts to help them.”
