Former Huddersfield Town striker Lee Novak is in advanced talks to join Shrewsbury Town.

The 27-year-old Geordie is out of contract at Birmingham City and available for a free.

Novak spent this season on loan to the Shrews’ League I rivals Chesterfield, scoring 15 goals.

He joined Birmingham three years ago after rejecting a new Town contract and has netted 12 times for the second-city club.

His move to St Andrew’s meant a reunion with Lee Clark, the manager who brought him to Town from Gateshead in a £150,000 deal in January 2009.

After being loaned back to the non-league club for the remainder of that season, he moved to the John Smith’ Stadium for the 2009-10 campaign.

Shrewsbury, managed by Mick Mellon, are rebuilding after staving off relegation.

They are believed to be close to completing the double signing of Northern Ireland defender Ryan McGivern and striker AJ Leitch-Smith from Port Vale.
