Martin Paterson is back in training – and targeting a long-awaited Major League Soccer debut.

The former Huddersfield Town striker has missed Orlando City’s opening six games because of a hamstring injury.

The Florida side, who signed Paterson in January, are third in the Eastern Conference and face Columbus Crew on Sunday.

They have claimed two wins, with last Sunday’s 2-0 success at Portland Timbers their latest.

Canadian international Cyle Larin and Brazilian ace Kaka, with a late penalty, were their scorers.

“It’s good to have taken a step to coming back,” said Northern Ireland international Paterson.

“It’s not been nice watching people play games when I can’t.

“I’m happy to be where I am in the rehab, but I’ll be even more happy when I finish it and I’m back on the field.”

Paterson, 27, joined Town from Burnley in 2013 and made 29 appearances, scoring six goals.

The former Stoke City and Scunthorpe United man had loans loan spells with Bristol City and Fleetwood Town.
