Former Huddersfield Town striker Robbie Simpson is back at Cambridge United.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Football League newcomers after his release by Leyton Orient.

Simpson first came to prominence at the Abbey Stadium.

He scored 17 goals for the U’s in 2006-07 after moving from Cambridge City.

His success at Conference level earned him a £40,000 move to Coventry.

Town signed him or £300,000 in July 2009, but he failed to settle and made only 16 appearances, scoring once.

Simpson had loans at Brentford and Oldham before signing a permanent deal with the Latics in January 2012.

He joined Orient last November, playing 16 times.

Cambridge beat FC Halifax Town en route to Conference play-off success against Gateshead at Wembley.

They played in the Football League from 1970 until 2005.
