Former Huddersfield Town trialist Leon Best is training with Championship rivals Rotherham United.

The former Republic of Ireland striker spent time with Town earlier this season and featured in a development match against Ipswich Town at PPG Canalside.

Manager Chris Powell held initial talks with the 29-year-old , a free agent after leaving Blackburn Rovers in the summer.

But no deal was forthcoming, and the ex-Newcastle United man moved on.

The Nottingham-born player began his career at Southampton and also had a spell at Coventry City.

Blackburn paid £3m for his signature in 2012.

Rotherham manager Neil Redfearn said: “Leon has experience of playing Premier League and Championship football.

Leon Best, then of Newcastle United, celebrates scoring the opening goal for the Magpies

“He’s a proven scorer that’s been out the game for a little bit.

“Ideally you want to look in training and in a game, if not a couple of games.

“What Leon carries is experience. He is a fit boy. He’s 29 and he looks lean and sharp and he’s been looking after himself.

“We just need to see if the hunger is there”
