Huddersfield Town are set to part company with Adam Hammill.
And early end to a contract which runs until the end of this season would leave the 27-year-old wideman a free agent.
Town signed the Liverpool product and former England Under 21 international from Wolves in June 2013.
That followed a loan spell at the John Smith’s Stadium in which he made 16 appearances, scoring twice.
He played 49 times during the 2013-14 Championship campaign, notching five goals.
But he fell out of favour last season, and was loaned to Rotherham United.
Hammill returned to Town in pre-season, admitting off-field issues had hampered him and saying he wanted to fight his way back into the team.
He featured in the first two matches of the campaign against Hull City and Notts County (Capital One Cup), both times from the bench.
But there have been no further outings, leaving his overall Town stats 75 games (54 starts) and seven goals.
Hammill, and FA Youth Cup winner with Liverpool in 2006, left Anfield for Barnsley, where he had impressed on loan, in 2009 without making a first-team appearance.
He caught the eye while at Oakwell and earned a move to then Premier League Wolves in January 2011.
Hammill’s career has also included loan spells at Dunfermline Athletic, Southampton, Blackpool and Middlesbrough.
