LEE FOWLER is handed the chance to steer Town past holders Blackpool in the LDV Vans Trophy tonight (7.45).

The Cardiff hero makes his first start in a month determined to replicate the form which made him a recent star with Wales Under 21s.

Fowler was on the bench for Saturday's 1-1 League draw against Colin Hendry's side but will be in the action from the off at Bloomfield Road, where manager Peter Jackson also has other changes in mind.

Goalkeeper Phil Senior makes his sixth start of the season before the arrival of loan back-up, thought to be Paul Rachubka following his availability after a loan at Northampton.

The likes of John McCombe, John McAliskey, Akpo Sodje and Nat Brown will be hoping to step up, while Danny Schofield could well get a first start since his four-match suspension.

Jackson is keeping selection well under wraps and concedes it's a difficult balancing act to rest key individuals while fielding a strong enough side to go through.

"We've got a strong squad and whatever team I put out I'll be confident we can win the tie," said the manager, who will welcome back striker Junior Mendes for Sunday's League meeting with Brentford at the Galpharm (3.00).

"Everyone is still disappointed that we didn't win over there on Saturday and we want to make sure we make amends tonight.

"If we get through this stage of the competition, then I would think we'll be among the favourites to win it, so it's a big game in that sense.

"It's a chance, though, for one or two of our lads to make a point and I'll be looking for another good performance.

"Ideally, I'd like to see a clean sheet as well because we haven't kept one since the last round against Morecambe and that's something I want to improve."

Blackpool have Paul Edwards back after suspension.
