OSCAR GOBERN is treating this season’s run-in as a fresh start for him at Huddersfield Town.

The 22-year-old has been limited to just 28 appearances in 20 months with the club but, now he’s fully fit again after ankle ligament surgery, the rangy midfielder is aiming to make a big impact.

New boss Mark Robins seems likely to hand him a third straight Championship start against Brighton at the Amex Stadium today, and Gobern is ready despite suffering a three-stitch nose wound and two black eyes – in a clash of heads with colleague James Vaughan – in the win at Burnley.

"This is a fresh start for me and, hopefully, I can repay the manager’s faith with some solid performances," said Gobern, whose contract runs out this summer.

"I felt I did pretty well during pre-season and started the first match at Preston, but I got a quite serious ankle injury and that set me back five or six months.

"It was back to square one and I’ve had to do my pre-season work all over again, so now I’m back I want to make the most of the chance the gaffer has given me.

"There’s definitely more to come from me. There’s always room for improvement from any player, no matter how far they’ve gone in their career, and I know I’m still young and still learning.

"Hopefully, with the help of the gaffer and his coaches, I’ll be able to show more of what I’m about and help us get on top of opponents."

So what does he know of Brighton and the test Town face today?

"They are a good footballing side and Gus Poyet likes them to pass, so it’s important we nullify any potential threat as much as we can," he said.
