HAPPY to get a win in his first start for over a month, Jon Worthington wasn't ready to get downhearted about Town's performance.

"It wasn't pretty, but the win was absolutely vital for us," said the 20-year-old midfielder.

"The conditions were very windy and the pitch seemed heavy, but the team didn't pass the ball anywhere near as well as we can do and that's what made it the sort of performance it was.

"If you had offered anyone a 1-0 win before the game, though, they would have taken it, and they would also have taken six points out of six over the Christmas weekend, so that's what you have got to remember at the end of the day."

Worthington was credited with scoring Town's goal by the stadium announcer, but he was honest enough to admit what had happened.

"I was busy blocking the keeper, so it definitely wasn't my goal," he smiled.

"It was a great delivery from Rob Edwards into the box, but it was their centre half, Swailes, who headed it in.

"I put my hand up in celebration and went over to congratulate Rob, but it was just because I was happy about us taking the lead, not because I had scored the goal."

Worthington believes Town should be positive about the second half of the campaign.

"Macclesfield was a bad, bad defeat for us but we have bounced back well and now we've got to look to press on from a good position in the table."
