LEE CLARK is ready to pitch “the best left-back in League I” into action when Town tackle Swindon in today’s big League I game at the Galpharm.

And fit-again Gary Naysmith has a proud record to defend as Clark’s promotion chasers aim to chalk up a fifth win in six matches and make it 17 unbeaten in the league.

Town haven’t lost any of the seven league games in which the 32-year-old Scotland international has been involved since signing from Sheffield United last summer.

And in those matches, they have conceded only one goal during the time ex-Everton star Naysmith has been on the pitch, late on in the 4-1 win at Exeter last month.

Having been sidelined by a toe problem which needed surgery, Naysmith suffered a calf injury during the 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.

“He’s been quick to point out we didn’t concede when he was on the pitch at Dean Court,” said Clark, who brought Naysmith off the bench during Tuesday’s 1-0 win at Brentford.

“Gary’s also claiming the assist for Peter Clarke’s goal the other night because he won the corner which led to it!

“He’s a class act and there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s the best left-back in the division. The statistics prove it.”
