Brighouse Sports went goal crazy in their West Riding Women’s League Premier Division clash with struggling Ossett Town.

Fresh from a 5-1 win at reigning champions Harrogate Railway, they scored 18 without reply in Sunday’s home fixture.

That put them fourth, four points behind leaders Farsley with two games in hand and a goal difference of 22.

Brighouse hit a high tempo from the start, and went ahead six minutes in, when Leanne Smith headed in Emily Holroyd’s cross from the right.

Emily Holroyd’s through ball to Vanessa Holroyd was then turned in by an Ossett defender for an own goal.

Sarah Hemingway finished a flowing move involving Paige Green, Smith and Emily Holroyd, from close range to make it three.

The goals continued to flow, and Hemingway and Smith completed hat tricks – Smith’s third was a tremendous solo effort – with Lauren Doyle also on target.

Eight up at half-time, Brighouse scored four more in the first 15 minutes of the second half, through Alex Sweeney (2), Hemingway and Smith, with a neat chip.

Emily Holroyd finally got in on the act with two in quick succession, then Hemingway claimed her fifth, with Smith soon following suit.

Sweeney scored from close range to chalk up the first hat trick of her career, then Charlotte Reid completed the scoring with a shot from the edge of the area.

Brighouse head to Rothwell Town for a West Riding FA Women’s County Cup first-round tie on Sunday (2.00).

A week later, they go to Leeds Medics and Dentists in the West Riding Women’s League Cup first round.
