GOALLINE technology just has to come into football.
We saw again the other night, when England played Ukraine, another wrong decision.
This time it went in England’s favour – unlike Frank Lampard’s ‘goal’ in the World Cup against Germany – but everyone knows the wrong decision was made as replays have clearly shown the ball to be over the line.
It is impossible to expect a human being to be 100% accurate on these decisions when play is happening so quickly.
Even standing on the line, an official has the post to contend with and then the flailing boot of the player trying to make a clearance.
The other night was the perfect example of why we need the technology, because the ball was only just over the line.
And it makes me laugh that Sepp Blatter has now come out to say the ‘top dogs’ in the game are now in favour of goalline technology.
I don’t remember such cries when England lost out to it!
For the record, I am also in favour of using technology for disciplinary reviews.
I don’t go along with the FA saying ‘the ref saw the incident so we can’t do anything more about it’.
They should have a review panel, like they do in rugby league, and if anyone needs punishing retrospectively then it can happen and all the onus is not on the referee or assistants.
