Defender Jack Robinson insists Huddersfield Town are not in relegation danger as they prepare for the festive fixtures.

Despite a third defeat in four matches, Town are still five points above the drop zone as they look ahead to the Boxing Day derby with Rotherham United at the New York Stadium and Sunday’s home clash with Bolton.

Asked if Town face a battle to stay up, Robinson said: “No, definitely not. We’re miles away from a relegation fight.

“We’ve got a good enough team to be up near the play-offs. It’s just results that haven’t gone our way.

“I think we’ve got quite a strong squad. There’s competition for places in almost every position and so I can’t see why we can’t be aiming higher up the table.”

Rotherham are a place above Town in 19th position in the Championship, but only on goal difference.

Of the Boxing Day game, Robinson admitted: “It would be a massive three points for us if we can get a win.

“We’ve not been doing well away in terms of results but, apart from the odd game, actually we’ve not played that badly.

“It’s something we need to turn around quickly. We just need to get a break. But even though it’s a derby we’ll treat it like any other match.”

Town were sluggish against Birmingham and Robinson said the 1-0 defeat hurt everyone.

“It was slow and we didn’t play well at all,” he explained.

“Norwich killed us and it was always going to be tough to bounce back. But Birmingham would’ve been the perfect game for us to do just that.

“They sat back and let us play. But we weren’t able to keep the ball well enough or get the tempo going.”

On losing to David Cotterill’s long-range free-kick, Robinson added: “It was silly play from us and we were punished for it.

“You could see the ball moving in the air and Alex was unlucky with the swerve – but we’ve only ourselves to blame.”
