TIMES are bright for football in Brighouse!

While the town’s Baris Northern Counties East League club are pushing for the title, Brighouse Old Boys, of the West Yorkshire League, are planning for a Halifax FA Challenge Cup final appearance.

They will take on Calder 76 after toppling leading Halifax side Ovenden WR 2-1 in the semis.

Calder won 4-2 on penalties after a 3-3 draw with Huddersfield Amateur.

Matty Roy was the Old Boys ace with a double, the clincher coming in the 75th minute, when he floated a free-kick past keeper Chris Moroney.

Roy’s first-half opener also came from a free-kick.

And while Andy Hall was excellent in defence, West Riding County Amateur League side Ovenden forced an equaliser through Matt Jones before teammate John Booth had a shot cleared off the line.

It’s the third season Huddersfield Amateur, based at the Old Earth ground in Elland, have gone down in the semi-finals.

For Calder it was a third shoot-out success in this season’s competition after putting out Hebden Royd Red Star and Brighouse Town.
