Guess who Liverpool are playing next after taking on Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium tonight?

They’ve got just a week to prepare for their bow in the International Champions Cup at the Rose Bowl in Pasedena, California, when the opposition will be Chelsea on July 28.

And the players will be jetting out there straight from their commitments against David Wagner’s men in the Shankly Trophy clash.

While Town are next off to Austria for training and matches against Werder Bremen and FC Ingolstadt, it’s a busy few hours for Liverpool tonight.

After taking on Town, Jurgen Klopp’s players will be taken back to Melwood for a couple of hours for a meal and recovery before heading to John Lennon Airport in the early hours.

Then it’s a charter flight from JLA direct to California.

Liverpool will make their training camp at Stanford University in the city of Palo Alto, right in the heart of America’s Silicon Valley, home to Google, Yahoo etc.

The University campus is so big at more than 8,000 acres it’s got its own postcode, 700 major buildings and 16,000 under and post grad students, 97% of whom live on site.

Stanford is situated 35 miles south of San Francisco and 20 miles north of San Jose. To the West are the Santa Cruz Mountains and Pacific Ocean, and to the east San Francisco Bay.

How come Stanford?

Well the facilities are excellent. College sports is a huge thing in America and Stanford has some of the best.

The upgraded Stanford Stadium unveiled in 2006 cost $100m and can seat more than 50,000 spectators.

The sports facilities include several other stadiums for basketball, baseball, softball, aquatics, a golf course, athletics track, rowing centre, tennis centre and an equestrian barn which predates the university.

Football is concentrated at Maloney Field at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. It has a natural grass playing surface and an adjacent practice area known as Ueland Field.

Importantly for privacy for the Reds, Cagan Stadium has been improved with the installation of higher permanent fencing and windscreens. Nearby, an all-weather turf practice field, Johnson Field, has also been installed.

Jurgen Klinsmann, the former Tottenham striker and now USA football manager, recommended Stanford to Klopp.

Klinsmann used the facilities to prepare his USA team for the World Cup in 2014.

Expanding Liverpool’s global fanbase is a natural part of the tour but there will be far fewer of these events than previous seasons, at Klopp’s request.

To help fulfil obligations the club will have a number of legends in attendance on the tour comprising of Luis Garcia, Gary McAllister, Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler.

Liverpool play Chelsea on the 28th, 4.30am UK time, and three days later take on another Champions Cup match against AC Milan at the Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, (3am UK time).

Their US tour concludes with a final game, a friendly against Roma at Busch Stadium in St Louis (1.30am UK time).
