DANNY WARD is hoping extra work pays dividends as he hunts an eighth successive Huddersfield Town start against Wolves tomorrow week.

The exciting wideman is enjoying the challenge of the Championship – and of improving the defensive side of his game.

“I’ve been working hard with the management,” explained the former Bolton man, who has been involved in all but one match this time around.

“I missed the opening game at Cardiff through injury and was on the bench a couple of times before Sean Scannell, who had been doing really well, missed out through injury down at Ipswich.

“With the competition we have here I knew I had to take my chance, and I’ve been trying to improve the defensive and positional side of my game.

“That’s important, because shape and organisation is a big part of our approach as a team, and it has served us well so far this season.”

Town, who like the rest of the Championship and Premier League take an international break this weekend, are sixth. Wolves are third.

“These big games keep coming and they are great to be involved in,” added Ward, who was among the Town players in action at Crusaders captain Colin Coates’ testimonial in Belfast on Wednesday.
