Fourteen weeks after signing off with a win at Watford, Skybet Championship action resumes for Huddersfield Town with the visit of AFC Bournemouth.

If you aren’t optimistic at this stage of the season, you probably never will be.

And after a disappointing result and display at Oldham last Saturday, the pick-me-up provided by Tuesday’s performance against Premier League Newcastle has been strengthened by the capture of Conor Coady from Liverpool.

Fans will be keen to see the highly-rated 21-year-old in the flesh as Mark Robins’ side, skippered by another new arrival in Lee Peltier, try to start with a three-point haul for the first time since Notts County were beaten 3-0 in League I in 2010, when Anthony Pilkington (2) and Jordan Rhodes were on target.

It’s relatively unusual for Town to be kicking off at home (it’s happened only twice in the previous six years).

The last time an opening-day victory was recorded on Huddersfield turf was in 2007, when Yeovil were defeated 1-0 by Luke Beckett’s goal, also in League I.

And it would be great to see Bournemouth beaten, especially with three tough away trips, to Chesterfield (in the Capital One Cup first round on Tuesday), Cardiff (next Saturday) and Reading (the following Tuesday) to come.

Eddie Howe’s Cherries were picked off last season, Town winning 5-1 at the end of August.

The South coast side, freshly promoted, were still finding their feet at that stage.

Having got the measure of the Championship, they finally finished 10th and will provide a good test for Town.

Pre-season hasn’t been plain sailing, with calf injury victim James Vaughan, a hat trick scorer in the home game against Bournemouth last season, an obvious concern.

Getting last season’s 12-goal top scorer fit and keeping him that way will be a huge help as Robins aims to establish his side in the top half of the table.

It would be great to see Vaughan and Nahki Wells spearhead the hunt for goals on a regular basis.

Coady also looks capable of chipping in, while Radi Majewksi showed he knows where the net is with that sizzler against Newcastle, and don’t forget Joe Lolley, who is looking to build on his first Town goal at Watford in May.
