TOWN manager Andy Ritchie has given up hope of landing Derby midfielder Lee Holmes.
The 20-year-old who was on loan with Bradford last season was wanted on long-term loan by the Galpharm chief.
But Derby’s promotion to the Premiership has scuppered those plans and Ritchie will now have to focus efforts elsewhere to strengthen his squad.
“We felt Lee might have been able to do a good job for us, but the loan has gone out of the window,” said Ritchie.
“Derby going up has changed the picture after we thought we might be able to get him here.”
It also seems certain Chris Brandon will be seeing out the remaining year of his contract at Town. He had initial talks with Blackpool, who he helped to promotion last season, but Ritchie explained: “It looks like their interest has died a death. I don’t know why.
“I’ve spoken to Chris and he’s a bit disappointed, but he’s got to knuckle down and get on with it.
“Personally, I’m glad he’s with us because he’s a good player, he’s got a bit of pace and his experience last season will have done him plenty of good.”
Former Town player John McCombe has signed for League II Hereford.
