September 4 is a red-letter day for teenage Huddersfield Town forward Jake Charles.

It marks Wales’ Under 21s next game, away to Luxembourg.

And having missed out against Bulgaria in Cardiff in March, he’s keen to be involved.

Town development defender Joe Wright did make his debut in that match.

But Charles, 19, who had made his Town bow earlier in the month, was ruled out by a hip injury.

The grandson of Wales football legend John Charles, he has represented the country at Under 16, 17 and 19 level.

“I’d love to play for the Under 21s,” he said.

“Having been called up, it was disappointing to have to pull out through injury.

I’m putting some hard work in to try and make it happen.”

The 3-1 win over Bulgaria gave Geraint Williams’ side a flying start in their bid to make the 2017 European Under 21 Championships in Poland.

Wales, in a group which also includes Denmark, Romania and Armenia, have nine more qualifiers.
