The countdown to the season beginning has started with just over three weeks to go.

Pre-season is in full swing, and at the time of writing, Huddersfield have a 100% win record in their friendly matches.

Granted, the sides we are playing are not in the upper echelons of the Football League, but a win is a win, and a match against any opposition is an opportunity to get a little more match fitness, and for the players to get to know each other on the pitch a little better.

Our HTSA Legends this week come from one of our Southern Terriers – Bob Farrell.

Bob comes to most games, home and away, and has played an important role in creating and developing the HTSA Southern Terriers Facebook Group.

He can be seen most games wearing a bright green puffer jacket, so he’s hard to miss.

“My first game watching Town was Middlesbrough in the old second division at Leeds Road, in 1959, aged six.

“I don’t remember much about the game other than standing on a barrier leaning against the wall at the Cowshed end of the East Terrace.

“I think we might have lost, but it didn’t really matter as I was with my Dad, Stanley.

“I know I was supposed to only have a couple of legends, but I have nine heroes in my list from a number of generations.

“My first real heroes were Jimmy Nicholson, Town Captain and “Leader of the Gang”, and Jimmy McGill, who would kick everything and everyone in sight, a real enforcer (I based my own game around the style of Jimmy McGill).

“Frank Worthington was another hero - a very talented flair player, who should have had many more England caps.

“Brian Stanton, who was a great goal scoring midfielder in Mick Buxton’s Championship winning team – I remember him hitting a screamer at Darlington once – it never when above two foot off the deck, but nearly burst the net!

“Keiran O’Regan, who was joint goal scorer one season with Iwan Roberts on 14, probably 12 came from the penalty spot!

“Darren Bullock, what battler, after beating Bristol Rovers at Wembley, I was ask by a guy, what Town needed to stay up, my response was, need to replace Bully, a great player but need someone who can also pass a ball, the guy was Bully’s Dad, thankfully Bully proved me wrong and had a great season.

“And you can’t have a heroes list without Peter Jackson – Town through and through, along with Peter Clarke, Captain Fantastic.

“Most of my heroes were uncompromising battlers. Too many are classed as Legends instead of Heroes in my opinion, True Legends are few and far between. I hope the next one will be David Wagner.”
