Huddersfield based defender John Cyrus has joined Altrincham from Frickley Athletic.

It’s a step up from Northern Premier League to National League North level for the former AFC Emley centre-back.

Cyrus has spent two seasons at Frickley, making 103 appearances and scoiring nine goals, after signing from Barnsley side Shaw Lane Aquaforce.

“it’s very tough to leave as I love it at Frickley, but I have to give it a go playing at a higher level,” explained the 24-year-old.

Altrincham have just been relegated from the National League top flight.
