Here's a look at the latest names to be linked with Huddersfield Town in our 'Rate the rumour' series, as we explore who’s in the frame to arrive at the John Smith's Stadium and players that look out of the club's reach.

Our Huddersfield Town writer Doug Thomson gives his ratings on the likelihood of the deals coming off.

Joe Murphy - 8/10

The Republic of Ireland international has held positive talks with Town about a move and a final decision is expected imminently on his future.

Mark Robins is determined to place pressure on No.1 goalkeeper Alex Smithies next season and Murphy fits the bill.

He offers experience, hunger and international pedigree.

Keith Andrews - 7/10

Town may be about to add another Irish international in the form of Bolton Wanderers midfielder Andrews, as Robins looks to add depth to his midfield numbers.

Andrews spent last term on loan at Brighton and Hove Albion and, despite having a year left on his current deal at the Macron Stadium, he looks set for a move, with Town ready to pounce.

The 33-year-old would provide the sort of organisational skills Town lacked at times last season in midfield without an experienced leader.

Craig Cathcart - 5/10

The former Manchester United trainee is out of contract after his Blackpool deal expired but will not be short of suitors given his versatility in defence.

Cathcart is able to play at centre-back and right-back, which could be an appealing prospect for Town boss Robins, who hopes to strengthen in both areas.

At 25, too, Cathcart is able to boast age being on his side as well as significant experience at Championship level.

Sam Hutchinson - 3/10

Town have been credited with an interest in the free agent, after he was released by Chelsea.

Hutchinson actually retired at the age of 21 due to a long-standing knee injury but returned two years later and has spent time at Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday since.

The Owls are believed to be the favourites to snare the 24-year-old and Town may be wise to steer clear after his chequered injury record.

Cyrus Christie - 2/10

The Coventry City full-back has been identified by Robins as a potential acquisition but his ever-rising stock means any deal is prohibitive.

He is out of contract with the Sky Blues but would command a substantial wage and may prove out of Town's price bracket in that respect.

Christie is also attracting interest from abroad, with several MLS clubs eyeing a deal and Robins may be better off looking elsewhere.

James Tavernier - 1/10

The Newcastle United right-back was one of the star's of Rotherham United's promotion campaign after spending the season on loan with the Millers.

Tavernier's all-action displays on the right have prompted interest from around the second division, with Rotherham boss Steve Evans eager to snap up his star defender from last term on a permanent basis.

It is Wigan Athletic, however, who have emerged as the likeliest club to sign him and Town will be blown out of the water by the Latics in any race.
