Facts

Huddersfield Town fell to their heaviest home defeat under Chris Powell as Wolves inflicted a painful 4-1 defeat on the Terriers with a clinical attacking display.

Nouha Dicko put Kenny Jackett's side in front after just 12 minutes and a Conor Coady own-goal just after the break gave the Terriers a huge uphill battle, with former Town loan striker Benik Afobe making it three shortly after.

James Vaughan responded with a tidy finish but Afobe squared for Dicko on the break late on to compound the misery for Powell and his side as the visitors avenged their 3-1 defeat at Molineux earlier this season.

Town team (4-4-2): Smithies; Smith, Hudson, Wallace (Edgar, 87), Robinson; Scannell, Butterfield, Coady, Bunn (Lolley, 67); Vaughan, Miller. Not used: Allinson, Holmes, Gobern, Wright, Majewski.

Analysis

Midfield unable to cope with Wolves counters - The Terriers' midfield setup looked stunned at the way Wolves sat off them, invited pressure and then sprung the trap by unleashing the pace of Bakary Sako, Rajiv van la Parra, Benik Afobe and two-goal man Nouha Dicko onto Town.

Conor Coady and Jacob Butterfield were both guilty of failing to provide adequate defensive protection and it meants the visitors were afforded far too much space with the attacking options at their disposal.

Main man

Sean Scannell - Looked the most threatening player on the pitch once more and did trouble young Kortney Hause at various stages of the opening period but could not cap it with anything tangible until his second-half impact.

His run and cutback for James Vaughan was a rare piece of decisive play in attack for the Terriers and it was refreshing to see a player take the game by the scruff of the neck when Town required a response, even if it proved in vain.

Bigger picture

Inconsistency hurting Powell and his side - Including the win at home to Bolton Wanderers, Town's recent record reads: WLWLWLWL so many will be presumably anticipating a win at Bournemouth this weekend!

But this proved how Town must start backing up their results and being a lot more street-wise in games to go on a run like the seven-match unbeaten sequence achieved in September and throughout October as they went from a disciplined display at Millwall to a comprehensive defeat here.
