Facts

10-man Huddersfield Town managed to throw away a precious three points late on as Norwich City pilfered a late 2-2 draw at the John Smith's Stadium.

Norwich had a goal disallowed early on when Bradley Johnson handled the ball into the net from a Cameron Jerome flick-on, with both sides trading chances in an entertaining opening period.

But it was Town who took the lead 10 minutes after the interval as Ishmael Miller shrugged off a challenge before rounding John Ruddy and firing home, but visting substitute Wes Hoolahan soon levelled things up with a well-taken strike across Alex Smithies.

It looked as if Town would have the last laugh when James Vaughan crashed home Jacob Butterfield's cut-back but the striker was handed a second caution when he removed his shirt in the wild celebrations and Norwich capitalised when another sub Jamar Loza rifled home.

Town team (4-3-3): Smithies; Smith, Hudson, Lynch; Scannell, Butterfield, Hogg, Coady, Carroll (Edgar, 70); Miller (Gobern, 78), Vaughan. Not used: Murphy, Wallace, Holmes, Charles, Majewski.

Analysis

Town's defensive struggles let them down once more - The equaliser arrived in controversial circumstances and was certainly harsh on Town given their efforts to establish a late lead, but it showed that problems still exist at the back.

That they were forced so deep into their box and with players on the edge of the area able to take time to line up a shot was criminal, regardless of the James Vaughan dismissal, and Loza cashed in at the back post.

Main man

Ishmael Miller - Gave absolutely everything to the Town cause and worked so hard up front, making life tough for Norwich's central defensive pairing of Sebastien Bassong and Russell Martin throughout.

He also showed superb composure to give his side the lead after going close in the first half and his link-up play with Vaughan was always creative and looking to get Town into attacking positions.

Bigger picture

This should give Town confidence, not regrets - To drop points in the manner they did will have been a hard pill to swallow for the Town players but they fought manfully against a side placed very much amongst the promotion favourites and gave a much more accurate reflection of their true selves.

The minor complaint would be the way they retreated after scoring the first goal but this was a high-tempo display which deserved a point at the very least and they must take this level into their remaining fixtures.
