Huddersfield Town will begin the 2014/2015 Championship season at home to AFC Bournemouth after the fixtures were revealed this morning.

Town will hope for a repeat of the scoreline in last season's corresponding fixture, when Mark Robins' men sealed a 5-1 win over the south-coast outfit.

The Cherries went on to finish in a respectable 10th place in their first-ever season in the second tier and, despite the loss of Lewis Grabban to Norwich City so far this close season, will harbour ambitions of doing even better next term.

Town won the home meeting between the two sides thanks to James Vaughan's sensational 21-minute hat-trick to add to goals from Adam Hammill and Adam Clayton.

After the season opener, Town face two tough assignments in the form of consecutive away trips to Cardiff City, relegated from the Premier League after a one-year stay, and Reading respectively.

On paper, Town's toughest run of the season appears to fall between the end of October and December, with Mark Robins' men facing a cluster of promotion hopefuls.

They begin their daunting run with a home clash against Brighton and Hove Albion, who lost out to Derby County in the play-off semi-finals last season, on October 21.

The meeting with the Seagulls is followed up with a trip to Ipswich Town before Nottingham Forest come to the John Smith's Stadium on November 1.

A trip to Derby County is next on the list, while visits to other relegated sides Fulham and Norwich City are sandwiched by matches against Sheffield Wednesday (H), Bolton Wanderers (A) and Brentford (H).

There will be no New Year's Day fixture this season, meaning Town's festive programme only encompasses three games.

They start at home to Birmingham City on December 20 and make the relatively short distance to Rotherham United for their Boxing Day clash before finishing off on December 28 at home to Bolton.

It means Town will face off with Wanderers twice inside a month, with their Reebok Stadium visit falling on November 29.

Town's end to the season looks far from encouraging, particularly with the play-off hopefuls all still left to play entering the final throes of the campaign.

Their run-in, from April 6 onwards, reads: Ipswich (H), Nottingham Forest (A - 11/04/2015), Brighton (A - 14/04/2015), Derby County (H - 18/04/2015), Blackburn Rovers (H - 25/04/2015) and Town conclude their season with a trip to pre-season relegation favourites Blackpool on the final day.
