Huddersfield Town academy starlet Ronan Coughlan has signed a professional contract at the club.

Coughlan has signed a deal which keeps him at the club until 2017, just days after he netted his inaugural Terriers goal at Under-21 level in the Development Squad's 3-2 win at Sheffield United.

The Terriers have the option of a further year on Coughlan, who arrived in the summer from League of Ireland outfit Limerick FC.

His move was only rubber-stamped in July despite completing a move in January earlier this year, with the 18-year-old training with the Under-18 group before being granted FIFA international clearance.

Academy manager Mark Lillis was delighted to see the Irishman, scorer of four goals in nine games for Tony Carss' Under-18's, commit his future to Town.

"It's fantastic news for the Club and for Ronan that he’s committed his future to Huddersfield Town," he said.

"He was identified via our scouting network and I am really pleased that the Club have now moved quickly to reward him following the fine start he has made to life at Huddersfield Town.

"He’s an exciting talent and he’s performed very well for our teams; both the Under-18s and during his four substitute appearances for the Under-21s.

"However, this contract doesn’t change anything in terms of Ronan’s development.

"He must continue to put in the hard work day in, day out in training, working with all of the coaches and learning from everyone around him, in order to fulfil his undoubted potential."
