HUDDERSFIELD Town boss Lee Clark has rubbished claims that Scotland hot shot Jordan Rhodes has a £2m release clause in his contract, saying: “That figure wouldn’t even buy his socks.”

The club’s 13-goal top scorer is back in training at Canalside on Thursday having won his first full cap in Cyprus last Friday and netted in the Under 21s’ stunning 2-1 European Championship qualifying win over Holland yesterday.

Rhodes, who now has six goals in as many Under 21 outings, flew back from Nijmegen accompanied by reports of interest from Newcastle, Fulham and Celtic and suggestions of the release clause in a contract which runs through to 2015.

But Clark said: “None of our players have a release clause and the owner (Dean Hoyle) has gone on record as saying we won’t be selling any of our rising stars in January.

“When players perform well, as Jordan is doing, there will always be speculation, but that is all it is.”
