Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell hailed his team's stunning first-half performance before revealing his regret at the two goals conceded before half-time in the Terriers' 4-2 win over Blackpool.

Town were in cruise control with three goals in 16 minutes thanks to Grant Holt's fourth-minute header and a Harry Bunn brace but the hosts allowed the Seasiders back in it with two goals just prior to the interval through a Tony McMahon free-kick and fellow defender Donervon Daniels.

Powell was quick to highlight his side's fast start out of the blocks and reserved special praise for man of the match Sean Scannell, but failed to mask his dissatisfaction at the quickfire double for Pool.

"I enjoyed the first 30 minutes and I'm sure every Town fan and everyone in blue and white will have done," the Terriers manager told reporters.

"We were outstanding, it was absolutely breathtaking at times.

"Sean Scannell is strutting his stuff and I'm really pleased to see he has responded to what I want.

"People tell me what it has been like for him before but I am just trying to cajole him.

"The only thing he didn't get was a goal for himself but we let them back in it.

"My teamtalk from maybe thinking about no complacency in the second half, we then showed that towards the end of the first half.

"We need to eradicate that because we really put them to the sword and when you do that you don't let off."

The two goals right on the stroke of half-time could have been the shot in the arm required for the visitors to push on in the second half but Powell was impressed with the resolve his side showed to pull through and grab a fourth courtesy of Jacob Butterfield's 20-yard strike.

"I have got to give full credit to the players because they had to go out there in the second half knowing Blackpool had their tails up," he said.

"They stuck at it, Alex [Smithies] made a good save and they put us under a bit of pressure but we came through it.

"That's really good for our understanding and game management and then Jacob came up with a superb goal and actually we could have scored more goals.

"We have given value for money, that's for sure, but I would have preferred it if we hadn't have put the scare into the 90 minutes like we did."

The major talking point before the game was the decision to revert to a 4-5-1, which meant no place in the starting XI for Nahki Wells, who was replaced by Jonathan Hogg, but Powell felt his side's performance helped to justify his decision.

"I decided on the shape of the team yesterday but I didn't tell them today which is a bit unlike me," he revealed.

"I have had to let one or two good players down.

"One of them being Nahki [Wells] but he understood and I just felt it was the right way to go.

"And the way we performed, it was great for us.

"I'm proud of the start we had - the players really went for the jugular but we need to do that for 90 minutes rather than half an hour.

"We gave the fans a bit of a scare and then went again.

"We need to become a really complete team and we are working towards that."

Powell's agitation at Blackpool's first goal was palpable and he felt his side suffered in the immediate aftermath of it, but did not detract from what he considered a job well done by his charges.

"I have seen [Tony] McMahon take free-kicks and he's not bad," he added.

"I could see maybe what he was going for and Peter Clarke was making himself a nuisance.

"Sadly it went in but I would have taken that if we get in at half-time and it's 3-1 but we switched off and you are at your most vulnerable when you have conceded - you always are - so not great.

"I will look at that because we have got another game on Tuesday.

"I have got to say though, some of our football at times today, some of our movement and our attitude was first class.

"And I was pleased because the fans deserve that - we've got back-to-back wins at home.

"People were saying we hadn't won at home but we have done now and back-to-back home and away and that's what we need to do throughout the season.

"It's getting there - only 12 games but really pleased with what we are displaying at the minute."
