Chris Powell says he won’t allow his big return to Charlton Athletic to overshadow Huddersfield Town’s bid for another Championship victory.

Town’s manager will be back at The Valley for the first time since his controversial sacking just short of a year ago.

And while he plans to pay tribute to the Charlton faithful before the game gets under way, he insisted: “I have moved on.”

Powell, also a former Charlton player, added: “I saw the people behind the scenes before I left, but I never got chance to say thank you to the supporters.

“They were outstanding with me, in good and not so good times, and that won’t be forgotten.

“The fiver admission for this game means there will be plenty of them (a 25,000-plus crowd is expected).

“But there will be a couple of thousand of our fans too and I really want to get a victory for them.”

Twelfth-placed Town, 3-0 home victors over Reading on Tuesday, are chasing a third win in four away games.

They drew at Bournemouth a fortnight ago after beating Wigan Athletic and Millwall.

But Charlton, 16th after losing 2-0 at leaders Derby County in midweek, have suffered only three home defeats this season.

Powell said: “It will be another tough one, but we’ll go there in good spirits and knowing we are capable of beating them.”

Nahki Wells, Town’s 12-goal top scorer, is a major doubt after injuring a shoulder in a collision with Reading keeper Adam Federici.

And centre-back Joel Lynch is unlikely to be back after his groin problem.

However wide player Sean Scannell (hamstring) and midfielder Conor Coady (illness) are both firmly in contention.

Charlton are without Johnnie Jackson, skipper during the Powell era, because of a leg injury.
