Chris Powell is keeping close tabs on the transfer market as the Football League loan deadline looms.

But the Huddersfield Town boss says there is no certainty over a new face by 5.00pm on Thursday.

Powell’s team are 18th in the Championship and nine points above the relegation zone with seven games to go.

The boss, without a win in six games, is currently operating with a 26-strong squad, including development players.

He has just one of his own loan signings, Birmingham City defender or midfielder David Edgar.

“We are having a good look at possible loans,” said Powell, whose side are next in action at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday week.

“We have streamlined the squad and we have a few players out because of injury, so we are low on numbers.

“But a lot of clubs are reluctant to let players out at this stage of the season because they may need them themselves.

“And a number of the players who are available may not be up to speed.”

Powell will have striker James Vaughan back from suspension for the Sheffield trip.

His fellow frontman Harry Bunn is under treatment for the hamstring injury which has kept him out of the last two games.

Meanwhile, QPR loan left-back Jack Robinson won’t kick another ball this season because of a knee injury.

Town have four players on international duty, including Edgar with Canada and 12-goal top scorer Nahki Wells with Bermuda.

Jake Charles, who made his Town debut from the bench in Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by Fulham, and Joe Wright are with Wales Under 21s.

Town Under 21s have a Professional Development League game at Colchester United on Tuesday (2.00).

They will be aiming to build on Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Swansea City.
