Chris Powell would love to do some early summer transfer business for Huddersfield Town.

The John Smith’s Stadium boss is working alongside chairman Dean Hoyle and chief executive Nigel Clibbens to try and add some key signings.

Having offered new deals to Oscar Gobern, Duane Holmes, Ishmael Miller and young players Ed Wilczynski, Sam Guthrie, Williams Boyle, Joe Wilkinson, Joe Wright, Ben Holmes and Flo Bojaj, Town are also keen to make quality imports.

“With new players, the utopia is to have them all done by June 30 so you can have them in and working in pre-season – but I know that very rarely happens,” explained Powell.

“It’s nice to get them lined up, but you have to remember with out-of-contract players they like to have three or four clubs interested and then choose the one they want.

“I will try and get something done early and if I can, I will, because that will be good for everyone, for my planning and for getting them in and getting to know them.

“It gives you the opportunity to find out about their personalities, get to know them on and off the pitch and let them know our objectives for next season – so the sooner you can get someone in the better.”
