DISAPPOINTED Town boss Simon Grayson pledged to get his team back on track for Saturday’s big home derby against Leeds United after his side slumped 3-0 at Middlesbrough last night.

Former Town loan striker Scott McDonald struck twice on a dismal night for the Terriers and their 1,115 travelling supporters in 21,850 crowd at a damp Riverside Stadium.

“We are all bitterly disappointed,” said Grayson.

“We lost in a manner we are not accustomed to, and we did not have the fire in our bellies and we did not have the determination not to concede goals.

“We gave the ball away far too cheaply and we failed to do the right things when we didn’t have the ball.

“When you put all those aspects together against a good footballing side you will get punished – and we did.”

Town were missing suspended duo Keith Southern and Adam Clayton – the latter is available against his former club Leeds – and were again without injured pair Sean Scannell and Jermaine Beckford.

But Grayson added: “I am not making excuses, we deserved to get beaten.

“But we have had a chat, had a run through what happened and we will dust ourselves down and be ready for Leeds.

“The players have to recover physically and mentality, understand what went wrong, and look to see what they can do to put things rights.

“We have players out, but that was an opportunity for others to come in and shine – although this defeat wasn’t down to individuals, we just didn’t play well enough as a team.

“When we went down to ten men at Charlton on Saturday we worked hard to keep our shape and organisation and got a deserved draw. In this game we just weren’t hard enough to beat.”
