LEE CLARK hailed Danny Ward’s full debut for Huddersfield Town and said any further loan arrivals would have to be “very good players”.

The Galpharm manager, whose promotion-chasing side drew 0-0 at home to Swindon on Saturday, has until Thursday’s deadline to add to his squad for the League I run-in.

Clark, who brought in winger Ward from Bolton last Monday, hasn’t ruled out a further dip into the market but said: “I’m really pleased with a lot of the things happening within the existing group.

“This week is going to be interesting especially with one or two players in other club’s squads wanting to go up to a higher division.

“There certainly won’t be anyone leaving my squad, but at this stage I can’t say about incomings. We’ll see what happens but they would have to be very good players.”

On Ward, who was facing the club for whom he made a big impact on loan last season, Clark said: “I was pleased with Danny.

“He tired a little but it’s a while since he started a game. First-team football is completely different from the reserves.

“His fitness will soon come, however, and there were certainly flashes that we’ve got a talented footballer.”

Town, next in action at home to Notts County in a Sky-televised clash on Sunday (4.00), could find themselves knocked out of the automatic promotion places tonight.

Peterborough, whose star striker Craig Mackail-Smith has been linked with Norwich, will leapfrog Clark’s team if they win at MK Dons tonight.
