EMBARRASSED boss Mark Robins called for Huddersfield Town’s squad to stand up and be counted otherwise they risk the “absolute travesty” of being relegated.
The new manager is considering loan signings after last night’s 6-1 hammering by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, which dropped Town to one place and just two points above the Championship trapdoor.
It matched the club’s worst defeat of the season at Leicester and Robins confessed: “I can’t believe how naive we have been.
“We want to pass the ball and we do have talent, but you have to win your battles.
“You have to track players, throw bodies in and put a foot in.
“You have to work as hard as the opposition and we didn’t do that.”
Robins has watched Town concede 10 goals in his first two games and added: “It is the most embarrassed I have been as a manager and we have to realise we are right in the thick of a relegation scrap.
“The people who have been here a long time have worked their socks off to get into this league and it would be an absolute travesty to throw that away.
“I expect the players to be devastated because I am, and performances have to be better, so we will get on the training ground and we will work.”
Town now have a crunch home showdown with fellow strugglers Ipswich Town on Saturday and Robins said: “We have had 180 minutes so far and it has been poor, so we will have a look at what might be available (in the loan market) in the short term to bolster us.
“It was men against boys at times, and we now need men who will stand up and be counted.”
