Huddersfield Town manager Mark Robins reckons Jazz Richards can play a vital role as the Terriers try to climb the Championship.

The manager confirmed the Swansea loan man returned unscathed after winning his fourth Wales cap as a substitute in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Finland in Cardiff.

The right-back, as well as Northern Ireland duo Ollie Norwood and Martin Paterson, is training with the rest of the squad ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield Wednesday.

Robins signed Richards, 22, on a three-month loan back in September, and he is set to make a ninth Town appearance in the televised lunchtime derby at Hillsborough (12.15).

“I’ve been pleased with Jazz so far, and I know he is enjoying the challenge we’ve handed him,” said Robins, whose side are 15th.

“He has learned a lot coming through the ranks at Swansea, and is a very capable one-against-one defender.

“I also think he has a lot in his locker going forward, and that’s an area of his game we need to take more advantage of.

“Jazz has played in the Premier League and in Europe and he has good knowledge of the Championship after his loan at Crystal Palace last season.

“We are looking to kick on after stagnating a little over the last month, and he can certainly help us do that.”

Richards was a 72nd-minute replacement for Reading’s Chris Gunter against Finland.

It was his second cap since joining Town after featuring in Wales’ final World Cup qualifier, a 1-1 draw in Belgium.

His cousin Eli Walker, a winger with Swansea-based Ospreys, was selected by Wales for their Autumn rugby union internationals, but missed out on a debut because of a hamstring injury.

Town will host Luton in the third round of the FA Youth Cup after the young Hatters won 2-1 at Gateshead.
