Chris Powell is ready for a reunion with Michael Morrison – his old centre-half at Charlton Athletic.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man is on loan at Birmingham City, who visit the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

Morrison, 26, was a regular in the Charlton side Town boss Powell led to promotion as League I champions in 2012.

Blues striker Lee Novak featured in the Town side who went up via the play-offs that season.

City will be aiming to shrug off financial worries and make it four wins from five games.

It’s been revealed the club need a £4.4m injection to keep going - but it is unclear if or how the cash will be found.

The freshly-published club accounts say the money was to come from Birmingham International Holdings through a £9.2m convertible bond issue in Hong Kong.

But this was scrapped in October.

The development comes just two weeks after former acting chairman Peter Pannu claimed the club could run out of cash within weeks because of a possible £1.8m tax bill.

That was strenuously denied by the St Andrews club, who say they will sign Morrison permanently in January.

The accounts showed a headline loss of £8m (down from £9m the previous year) on turnover of £20 (down from £24m).

The wage bill was a bumper £20m (down from £22.9m), accounting for 99% of income.

Gate receipts were down from £4.2m to £3.6m and TV money dropped from £14.7m to just under £12m.

Other commercial income was down from £5.2m to £4.5m.
