Peter Clarke marked his 200th Huddersfield Town game by leading the way to a first league win of the season at Millwall.

Now the commanding captain wants back-to-back home victories.

Town are up to 12th in the Championship table after their 1-0 success at The New Den, where they had 564 and in a 9,503 crowd.

Promoted Bournemouth, in seventh after their 1-0 home win over Wigan, come to the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday.

Mark Robins’ side then host divisional rivals Charlton in the second round of the Capital One Cup a week tomorrow before a Saturday, August 31 derby at Barnsley completes the opening block of five Championship matches.

James Vaughan sealed the win which sent Steve Lomas’ Millwall bottom without a point from the first three games with a 58th-minute header from Adam Hammill’s corner.

It was his fourth goal in as many games and sparked an angry reaction from Millwall fans, whose side have now failed to score in 616 minutes of Championship football.

Clarke, now in his fifth season at Town, said: “Millwall fans make no bones about what they expect from their team, and they made their feelings clear.

“It’s never an easy place to come, so it was great to leave with the three points.

“I thought we dominated much of the match.

“They gained a bit of impetus in the closing stages, because they desperately needed to get a goal back.

“But we saw off the onslaught, and it was a deserved win.”

Clarke, once again among three centre-backs deployed by Robins, continued: “We have two home games on the spin now.

“They will be tough, but we want momentum and we believe we can win both.”
