Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle says an FA Cup run can provide the club with a significant shot in the arm financially.

The John Smith’s Stadium side host Championship rivals Charlton for the third time this season on Saturday aiming to reach the fifth round for the second year running.

Admission has been slashed to £10 adults, £5 concessions, and the owner-chairman is urging supporters to take advantage.

“We realise it’s a busy month and that the game has fallen between long away trips to QPR (last Saturday) and Bournemouth (next Tuesday),” said Hoyle.

“We have tried to make admission against Charlton as affordable as we can, and I think the prices represent great value.

“We don’t plan for cup runs, so any additional income they provide is a bonus and fans should not underestimate how important progress could be.

“If we can get past Charlton, we have a chance of a tie against a Premier League side in the next round, and that would be a real boost.”

Town are chasing a third win over Charlton having beaten them 3-2 in the second round of the Capital One Cup in August and 2-1 in the league in September.

It’s the first time they have had three home games against the same side in three different competitions in one season and the second time they have played the same team in both major cups (after Plymouth in 1963-64).

Charlton clinched their latest John Smith’s visit with a 3-0 win in Tuesday’s third-round replay at League II Oxford United and Town boss Mark Robins was at the Kassam Stadium to see French frontman Yann Kermorgant (2) and Danny Green get the goals which put them through.

Manager Chris Powell said: “Even though we had a long trip to Middlesbrough last Saturday, the players put in a sterling effort.

“The goals came at the right time and I thought we were quite clinical. In fact, I was pleased with all aspects of our play.”

While Town are 13th in the Championship, the Londoners are 21st, but Hoyle warned: “Both previous games have been close and they pose a real threat.

“Our fans can play a big part by coming down in numbers, getting behind the lads and creating a really good atmosphere.”

Town were 1-0 winners at Charlton in last season’s FA Cup third round, and got past Championship rivals Leicester in a replay before going down 4-1 to then-Premier League Wigan.

They won 3-2 at Conference side Grimsby in this season’s third round through Ollie Norwood, Martin Paterson and an own goal.

Recent signings Nahki Wells and Joe Lolley are both cup-tied.
