HUDDERSFIELD Town manager Simon Gryason says he’s closing in on a number of his close-season transfer targets.

The Galpharm boss insists there will be a different look to both Town and Preston by the time the two clash in the first round of the Capital One (League) Cup in August.

Town fans are eager to discover which players they see in the Championship.

Republic of Ireland pair Keith Andrews and Paul Green are confirmed targets, while other midfielders linked with the newly-promoted club include Doncaster’s Simon Gillett and Leeds’ Adam Clayton.

The manager, who is ready to push keeper Ian Bennett, striker Alan Lee and utility man Tom Clarke on responses to his new contract offers, explained: “After talks with both Dean Hoyle (chairman) and Nigel Clibbens (chief executive) I’ve drawn up a list which is realistic within our budget. We’re working hard to bring in those concerned and I have already had face-to-face talks with two players and a number of agents.

“We’re still at that stage where the market is relatively slow, but I’d like to get as many of the deals done as soon as I can in order to have the bulk of the squad together for pre-season.”

On Bennett, Lee and Clarke, Grayson explained: “Obviously the players need some time to think things over, but we won’t let things drag on too long because we need to know where we are.”

Town could visit Preston on Saturday, August 11 (if both clubs agree) or play the match on Sunday 12 or in the midweek.
